I left coffee in a plastic coffee mug for almost 2 months, it stinks! How can I make it usable again?

tyzekiel asked:

Its an expensive coffee mug. I tried putting some of my bleach/cleaner in it with cold water and letting it sit overnight, then running it through the dishwasher on HOT. But when I pulled it out it still smelled gross. Is there any way I can fix it? Cheers for any help.

Just throw it away, easiest thing to do!

  • female_daywalker:

Clean it with vinegar. That will kill both the smell and any remaining bacteria. If that still does not help put it in the freezer. That should do the trick.

Try soaking it in vinegar or covering it with a paste of baking soda mixed with a few drops of water. You may need a couple of treatments before you see (smell) any results.

You could use the vinegar… but I don’t think you’d want to smell that every time you drank out of it! Spend another $10 and throw the nasty thing out!!!

I read this tip Buy the tablets for cleaning dentures, place tablet in mug with cold water and leave overnite.

You can’t. You need to throw it away. There will still be bacteria present in the mug, which is why there will still be an unpleasant smell. Also, would you really WANT to use it again, or give it to a family member or friend who may visit you? The bacteria, in addition to causing the noxious smell, may cause anyone using the mug to become ill. You wouldn’t want to be responsible for that happening, would you?

I would throw it out but you would be able to clean it with a steam cleaner machine.

Where did you manage to leave a coffe cup for two months?! you mean one of those thermos cups? Your not supposed to use chemicals in them.

    vinegar should do the trick.
