Why does the coffee at dunkin donuts always taste different than what I make at home?

They use filtered water.
From what I’ve heard about this, it has to do with the machine, and the fact that it’s broken in.. Basically, after repeated use of the same machine, the coffee tastes better and better.. Supposedly, if you go to a brand new Dunkin Donuts, the coffee will taste a bit off.. After a while of being open, it will taste as good as usual…
Their Bunn machines are commercial models and are calibrated by bunn regularly.
The coffee is the same. It used to be roasted by Wexler but I don’t know if it still is.
Try getting it grinded more finely ( try extra fine) and not drip or auto drip.That may do the trick for you.
The finer you grind it the stronger it’ll get.
So if it tastes watered down, that may solve the prob.
If it’s tasting to strong, do the opposite( grind it a little courser)
Alot of the reason is the equipment that the coffee is brewed on. There commercial brewer allows the coffee to have alot more “bed depth” in the basket and an overall spray pattern over the entire bed of coffee. This creates “turbulence” on the coffee & thus extracting mor eof the flavor profile of their coffee. Your Bunn brewer does not cover the entire bed of coffee & does not create a huge amount of “turbulence”. The Bunn brewer’s temperature should get up to at least 200 degrees for it to even affect the coffee…much like DD’s commercial brewer does.
If you really wanna try to get the same flavor profile of the coffee you taste at DD’s, then get yourself a french press. Grind the coffee to a medium coarsness (not fine as it will pass through the screen) & pour boiling water over it (actually 212 degrees). Let it sit for about 4-5 minutes, press down on the plunger & WOW! A nice cup of coffee that will be fairly close to what you taste at DD’s! I’d transfer the french pressed coffee into a thermos type container so as not to let it over brew sitting in the french press.

This may sound simplistic, but think about it for a minute before you laugh.
They wash and scour the pot each time after they make a pot of coffee, cleaning it thoroughly with very hot water.
Try that yourself.
Honestly, some people go weeks and weeks without washing their coffee pot – usually they just give it a rinse.
prob don’t use exact measurements most people at home don’t make their coffee nearly strong enough.
It’s probably the donuts. Every coffee I have had from there tasted distinctly like donuts. You need to saturate your house with donut smell, then make your coffee.
There is something in there you are leaving out, maybe your pot needs to be broken in.
What brand of coffee? that might be it!
